Autism:
Disturbances in the development of social & language skills.
Abnormal response to sensations like sight,hearing,touch,smell,taste,balance & reaction to pain.
Absence or impairment of speech & language,although thinking capabilites may be present.
Abnormal ways of relating to people , objects & events.
Autism occurs by itself or in association with other disorders such as viral infections,metabolic disturbance & epilepcy which effects functioning of the brain.
Its important to distinguish Autism from retardation or mental disorders since diagnostic confusions may result in referral to inappropriate or ineffective treatments.
The severe form of syndrome may include self injury,obsessive repetition , aggression and tantrums.
